| Scott Quesenbury, Special Negotiator from the Office of the US Trade Representative speaking off the record updated the Forum on the position of the US in today's trade negotiations reminding the delegates that quotas come off at the end of 2008. | Doyen of the Hong Kong and Chinese apparel industry, Dr Harry Lee moderated with skill the opening probing session: " Free trade or Fair trade" | Bill Lakin, Director General of Euratex got straight to the point with his testing comments to the panel from the floor during the "Free trade or Fair Trade" session. | Carlo Rivetti, President of the Sportswear Company and a Vice-President of the Italian Federation of Textile and Fashion introduced some Italian humour into a serious discussion on the role of trade associations interacting with governments in shaping globalisation policies. | Jan Eggert, Sec. Gen of the Foreign Trade Association put the European retailers' perspective into the discussions. |
Click here for more photos on the forum and workshops OVER 400 DELEGATES FROM MORE THAN 20 COUNTRIES PARTICIPATED AT PRIME SOURCE FORUM AND WORKSHOPS 2008 Established after just three years, Prime Source Forum, which just took place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, lived up to its reputation as the annual meeting place for the entire apparel industry supply chain in the third edition.
More than 50 panelists and moderators from 15 countries led the discussions which ranged over the challenges and opportunities confronting the industry in today's changing economic and political environment. Two heavyweights involved in the world of apparel enlightened the Forum on their experiences in the industry. Dr. William Fung, Group Managing Director of Li & Fung Ltd, delivered the Keynote Address, "The World may be Flat but the Terrain is Rough: Global Sourcing in the Next Three Years", and Rufus Yerxa, Deputy Director General of the World Trade brought the meeting up to speed with the latest news on the Doha round and possible implications for the apparel industry.
